Another good weekend. Still no baby.

Neo managed to finish saving his money to pitch in for a Nintendo Wii. Wow, that is fun. We played it almost all day today. Already, Neo is updating his birthday wish list.

Speaking of that, the details for Neo's 7th birthday party and gift ideas are on his website at

If you haven't been keeping up with Christian's blog, you should check it out. Christian and I have both been updating our blogs much more frequently lately. It is a great way to express yourself! Christian posts about news and crafts that she works on mostly. I post about lots of techie stuff on mine.

If you don't like having to manually check websites to see if their are updates, you should use a news reader! Christian and I both use Google Reader. It's great. Just paste in the RSS feed from the site you want to monitor (or, you can just use the website address sometimes), and then it will keep you informed of the latest updates. And if you use the Google Personalized Homepage, you can have Google Reader right there on your start page. We love it! We see updates to the sites we care about on our homepages as they happen.

If you start using a news/RSS reader like Google reader, here are the RSS feeds for our blogs:

* (this blog):
* christian's blog:
* frankie's blog:

That can help you stay in touch with our blogs and news as well as news from all the other things you care about. For example, you could have a running news search on google for anything relating to your town, or school, and then add the RSS link for that search to your news reader. Just like that, you can have instant updates without having to go and look for them.

That's your tech tip for this week :)

Vacation pictures are up. You can find them here. Neo's pictures are on his page in his January folder.

Also, I started a personal blog for me. Many times I want to blog about technical stuff or personal things that don't really fit on the family blog, so I decided to make one for me, similar to Christian's blog. Today is also the first day of my diet and I want to blog about my successes and failures, so that was also motivation to start it. You can find it here.

I wrote a project page describing the code I wrote for the new photo gallery. The page explains how I wrote the sync scripts that keep the website in sync with my PC, how I generate the thumbnails with the mkThumb utility and a recursive perl script, how I dynamically generate the XML data for the SimpleViewer utility using php, and also how I make the directory navigation/breadcrumbs bar at the top in php.

Hopefully the code will be helpful to others. You can find the page here. If the code is helpful to you, please write me. I would love to hear about it!

Christian is preparing to go back to school and get her MBA. The first step of this was preparing for and taking the GMAT. I won't get into the details since Christian will probably tell you guys all about it on her website.

That's right. Christian has a website now! It took us only a few minutes to set up and she is ready to post to her blog. The address of her website it (there is a link to it under the "homepages" section). I am hosting it here on our web server and it is very easy to do, so if anyone else is interested in doing this, please let me know. It can be a great way to share thoughts about decorating a new home, news about grandkids, or photos from a recent jewelry party.

Our refrigerator went out last week. We shopped around but was forced to make a quick purchase. In the end, it didn't have to be, because we lost most of the food anyway.

We eventually settled on a Whirlpool from Lowe's. Whirlpool has been ranked the brand lowest in repairs for 8 years in a row (by Consumer Reports I think). We got a black, 25 cu ft. side by side. It is one of the cheaper ones, so not many bells and whistles, but it has a lot of room. Also, Lowe's gave us 10% off if we put it on a Lowe's card, a $75 gift card, and a rebate for free delivery. And since we have 12 months no payments, no interest, we should have plenty of time to sell our blood and plasma to pay for it :)

We had always hoped to be able to take the house one room at a time and furnish/decorate it buying the exact things we wanted for that room, and then saving for the next room. Now that we have had some expensive repairs to make, and foundation repair coming up, we decided to start decorating the rooms as best we can with the things that we have and not buying anything. This will be kind of fun to see what we can do without spending much money.

The first task was to wrap up the theater room. This weekend, I got in the attic and we installed an outlet in the ceiling next to the projector so we don't have a power cable running down the wall. The only things remaining in there are two movie posters to hang up (we are thinking about using "The Incredibles" and "The Matrix"). If anyone knows a place to get cheap movie posters or cheap poster frames, let us know.

Next up on the list, our bedroom!
